How To Install TWRP Recovery and Root Galaxy Tab S4 (SM-T830/T835)

Also, the 10.5-inches tablet brings an S-Pen, improved multi-tasking through Samsung DeX and a near-desktop experience with a magnetic keyboard for its users. Although this tablet comes with extended features, still users might often want to root Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 to use root-enabled apps or install mods for additional features. You’ll be happy to know that you can now install TWRP recovery and root Galaxy Tab S4 using Magisk.

All thanks to the XDA Recognized Contributor ashyx and ianmacd for sharing an unofficial TWRP recovery for the Galaxy Tab S4. Please note that the given TWRP recovery 3.2.3-2 image is in its development stage (beta) but it’s stable and you can use it. According to the developer, everything except ADB and MTP support is working. But you can still root Galaxy Tab S4.

How to Install TWRP Recovery and Root Galaxy Tab S4 2018

Now the Galaxy Tab S4 users can explore more and extra amazing features by getting root access. If you want to get a superuser permission to access more locked features of the Android phone then simply root your device. Rooting is a process to unlock your Android device. Nowadays, everyone knows about rooting and they want to root their phones but sometimes they failed to root their Android smartphone. So by following the given step by step guide, you can Root Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and Install TWRP Recovery. Rooting Procedure is followed only after installing the TWRP Recovery on your Phone. Now, follow these instructions, to install TWRP Recovery and Root Galaxy Tab S4.

What is TWRP Recovery?

TeamWin Recovery also known as TWRP recovery which comes with 3.1.0 version and has a Material Design, Touch Screen Support, Encryption mode. The TWRP custom recovery is built with a touchscreen-enabled interface which allows users to install third-party firmware and backup the current system. Now the official latest TWRP recovery is available for Galaxy Tab S4. After Rooting Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and Installing TWRP Recovery, you can install Custom ROMs, Custom Kernels, Custom Mods and so on. While there are many other ways by which you can root an Android device, using Magisk to root Android is the best way as of now.

You must have an Unlocked Bootloader. Otherwise, you can’t root and install TWRP on your device. Follow the given guide on how to install TWRP on the Galaxy Tab S4 2018 and then how to root it using Magisk. Don’t forget to take a full backup of your data before proceeding to root Samsung Galaxy Tab S4.

Pre-Requirements:

  • We highly recommend taking a proper backup of your contacts, messages, photos, videos and other valuable data on your phone.
  • The battery level of your phone should be at least up to 70% to avoid unexpected shutdowns while rooting.
  • Enable USB Debugging on your phone by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
  • Download and install Samsung USB Drivers on your PC.

Install TWRP Recovery on Galaxy Tab S4

Please note that you’ll need to flash the modified boot with patched DM-verity to prevent the TWRP recovery from being overwritten on first boot.

1: – First, download the TWRP recovery, DM-Verity patched boot, Forced-Encryption disabler, Odin tool (Odin v3.10.7) and Magisk files on the desktop of your PC for Galaxy Tab S4.

2: – Switch off the Galaxy Tab S4 to boot into the Download Mode.

3: – Now press and hold the Volume Down + Power buttons until the tab vibrates. Then quickly release the Volume Down button and hold the Volume Up + Power button. By doing so your tablet will enter into the stock recovery mode. Select ‘Reboot to bootloader’ to boot into Download Mode.

4: – Connect your tablet with the PC using its USB data cable.

5: – Run Odin tool by double-clicking on the ‘Odin3 3.13.1.exe’ file as an Administrator on your PC.

6: – The ID:COM port on the Odin window should light up blue.

7: – Click on the ‘AP‘ button and select the ‘T830XXU1ARH8_dmverity_patched_boot_permissive.tar‘ file.

8: – Then click on the ‘Start’ button to flash the file on your Tab S4.

9: – When the flashing process finishes, the tablet will reboot into the OS.

10: – Now, put the Galaxy Tab S4 into Download Mode again and connect it to the PC.

11: – Run the Odin.exe once again, head over to the Options tab and uncheck Auto Reboot.

12: – Click on the AP button and select the TWRP file ‘twrp_3.2.3-2_sm-t830_26918.tar‘ that you have already downloaded.

13: – After selecting the file, click on Start. This will flash TWRP on your Galaxy Tab S4 2018.

IMPORTANT:

Once the flashing process completes, boot your tablet into TWRP mode directly.

  1. Hold the Volume Down + Power buttons until the phone powers OFF.
  2. Hold the Volume Up + Power buttons to boot into TWRP recovery on Galaxy Tab S4.

How to Root Galaxy Tab S4

1: – First of all, move the forced-encryption disabler zip file to your tablet’s storage.

2: – Next, boot your Galaxy Tab S4 into TWRP Recovery mode by holding the Volume Up + Power button at the same time while the tablet is powered OFF.

3: – Swipe the button to allow modifications when the ‘Keep System Read Only’ screen prompted.

4: – Now, tap on the ‘Install’ button and choose the ‘TabS4_oreo_forced_encryption_disabler.zip‘ file. Swipe the button on the screen to the flash the file.

5: – Navigate to ‘Wipe’ -> ‘Format Data’ and enter ‘YES’ in the provided field to wipe the tablet completely, including the internal storage (Important).

6: – After formatting, tap on ‘System’ in‘Reboot’ menu.

7: – Once the tablet boots into the OS, transfer the Magisk 17.2 zip file to the internal storage of Tab S4.

8: – Power off the tablet and boot into TWRP recovery mode.

9: – Tap on the ‘Install’ button and select the ‘Magisk-v17.2.zip‘ file.

10: – Start flashing Magisk by swiping the button on the screen and root Galaxy Tab S4.

Done! You have successfully rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and installed TWRP.
