How To Install Xposed Framework On Android Nougat

After waiting for more than a year, users of the Xposed Framework were finally treated to some good news. Last month, Xposed Framework developer rovo89 was able to finally release the official Xposed Framework build for Android Nougat. Changes in the way Android optimizes ART were why it took this long to create a fully working build. But now that it is finally here, you don’t need any special ROMs to install it. Xposed for Nougat works with every stock Android ROM as well as several custom ROMs. Some mods that haven’t yet been updated to work with Android Nougat might be incompatible though. Here is how you can install Xposed Framework on Android Nougat.

Requirements

  • You will need a rooted Android device.
  • Your device also must have a custom recovery already installed. You can refer to this general guide to find out how to install TWRP on your device.

How to install Xposed Framework on Android Nougat

  1. Download the Xposed Installer APK from the link provided above and the correct Xposed Framework zip for your device. If you don’t know the processor architecture of your device, install Droid Hardware Info from the Google Play Store. Under the System tab, note the following two fields – CPU Architecture and Instruction Sets.

    • ARM: ARMv7 or armeabi
    • ARM64: AArch64 or arm64
    • x86: x86 or x86abi
  2. Transfer the downloaded files to your Android device if you have downloaded them from any other device.
  3. You will now need to reboot your Android device into recovery mode, assuming you have TWRP installed. Most Android devices can be booted into recovery mode can by pressing and holding the Power button and Volume Down button together while it is powered off. But depending on the make and model of your device, the process can greatly differ. You may have to look towards Google for an answer if you don’t know or ask us in the comments below, mentioning your device model.
  4. Before you go ahead with the installation, you should create a full NANDroid backup of your device, just in case. It will take a while but it is worth it in case you end up needing it. To create a Backup, select the Backup button in the TWRP main menu and select all the partitions and then swipe at the bottom to back them up.
  5. Go back to the main menu once the backup is complete and tap on the Install button, then select the downloaded Xposed flashable zip file.
  6. Swipe at the bottom to flash the zip.
  7. Tap on the Reboot system button that appears at the bottom after the process is complete.
  8. When your device boots up, use a File Explorer to navigate to the downloaded Xposed Installer APK and tap on it to install it. If you haven’t already enabled it, enable Unknown sources in Settings > Security since it is required before you can install any third-party APK.

Once installed, launch the Xposed Installer app and enjoy the flexibility of Android coupled with Xposed.
