Update Xperia Z2 (Sirius) to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop has been rolled out for most of the flagships like Samsung, HTC, LG and Nexus etc and now this latest OS update is available for Xperia Z2 codenamed “Sirius”, but as Sony has not announced yet that when they will officially release Android 5.0.2 for this smartphone but thanks to the CyanogenMod team for releasing the official CyanogenMod 12 custom Nightly ROM. If you have Xperia Z2 then you’ll be eager to install the new Lollipop features on your device running the official CM12 Nightly ROM, which is indeed the most stable custom ROM.

Note:

This given guide containing the CM12 Nightly ROM is only working with Sony Xperia Z2. Do not apply this guide on any other or incorrect variant, as a result the device might get bricked. You can verify the model number of your device by going to Settings > About Phone.

Before Getting Started:

  • Take a proper backup of all your important data like your SMS, MMS, APN Settings, Call Logs, Contacts and media files etc with a recommended custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP recovery. In case anything goes wrong then you’ll be able to restore your data.
  • Download and install Sony Xperia Z2 (Sirius) USB Drivers on your PC.
  • Enable USB debugging on your Xperia Z2 by going to Settings > Developer Options.
  • Make sure that you have at least 80% of battery charge in your device before proceeding to the installation guide.

Steps to Install Android 5.0.2 CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM on Xperia Z2 (Sirius):

Step No 1:- First of all, download the Android 5.0.2 CM 12 Nightly ROM (cm-12-20150122-NIGHTLY-sirius) and Google Apps (gapps-lp-20141109-signed) package on the desktop of your PC for your Xperia Z2. But do not extract these zipped files.

Step No 2:- Next, plug your device with the PC using its USB data cable

Step No 3:- Transfer CM12 Nightly ROM and Gapps .zip files to the SD Card or internal storage of your phone.

Step No 4:- After transferring the zipped files, disconnect the phone from the PC and turn it OFF in order to boot into Recovery Mode.

Step No 5:- Now turn ON the Xperia Z2 while tapping Volume Up or Volume Down buttons for a few times till the LED light turns pink (or any other).

Step No 6:- While your device is now in CWM Recovery, perform a full data wipe by selecting Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache by navigating to Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache.

Note: Wipe Dalvik Cache will help you to prevent boot loops and other ROM related issues while installing firmware on your phone.

Step No 7:- Go back to the main recovery menu and select “install zip from SD card” > choose zip from sdcard.

Step No 8:- Navigate to the Android 5.0.2 Official CM12 ROM zipped file which you’ve already transferred to the internal storage of your device and confirm the firmware installation to start.

Step No 9:- Install Google Apps Package by repeating the above steps.

Step No 10:- After the installation is completed, go to “+++++Go Back+++++” and from the Recovery Menu > reboot system now.

Now the phone will be rebooted and it may take about 4 to 5 minutes to boot up for the first time after the ROM and Google Apps installation.

Done! You’ve successfully updated Xperia Z2 (Sirius) to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with CM12 Nightly custom ROM.

    Hi!! I install de rom perfectly and power up my cell and work fine!! But now i dont know how to root my sony z2. I boot the cellphone and only boot to cyanogenmod, i didnt go back to bootloader to install a .zip for the root.
