Update LG G3 D855 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM

Google’s latest Android Lollipop 5.0.2 firmware is now available for LG G3 via a custom ROM, This smartphone was released with Android 4.4.2 KitKat update as its original firmware in June 2014. You can install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on the LG G3 (D855) codenamed “Jenkins” (International Variant) using CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM that is based on stock AOSP.

The latest CyanogenMod 12 ROM comes with the features and functions of Lollipop having smooth and fast stock Android experience. Make sure that this is just a custom ROM which is developed by third-party developers, not officially released by LG, thus the ROM is not completely stable and many bugs might be expected in its early release. But the main advantage of installing Nightly ROMs is, getting updates on daily basis to fix bugs and features improvements. Note:

This tutorial containing the instructions and CM12 ROM is only working with the LG G3 D855 (international variant). You can check the model number of your device from Settings > About Phone.

Before Getting Started:

  • Take a proper backup of all the data and settings on your phone using a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP before proceeding the given guide.
  • Download and install the LG G3 D855 USB Drivers on the PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging Mode by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
  • Make sure that your LG G3 is rooted with a latest version of custom recovery such as CWM recovery already installed.
  • The bootloader of your phone should be unlocked
  • Verify the battery level of your LG G3, it should be charged at least about 70% to prevent the device from automatically turning off

Steps to Update LG G3 D855 to Android 5.0.2 CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM:

Follow the given instructions to install CM12 ROM based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on your LG G3 D855:

Step No 1:- First, download Android 5.0.2 CM12 Nightly ROM (cm-12-20150311-NIGHTLY-d855.zip) on the desktop of your PC for LG G3 D855.

Step No 2:- Plug the device with PC using its USB cable and mount the USB Mass Storage of the phone.

Step No 3:- Transfer the CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM zipped file that you’ve already downloaded, to the root folder of SD Card on the LG G3.

Step No 4:- Disconnect the device after transferring the ROM .zip file and turn it OFF in order to boot into Recovery Mode.

Step No 5:- Turn ON the LG G3 by pressing and holding Volume + Power buttons altogether till the LG logo displays and then release the buttons.

Step No 6:- Next, tap Power and Volume Down buttons, once the hard reset button appears, hit Power to enter custom Recovery Mode.

Step No 7:- While your LG G3 is in CWM recovery, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset to perform a full data wipe, perform Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache from Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache.

Step No 8:- Go back to the main recovery menu and select Install Zip from SD card > Choose Zip from SD card.

Step No 9:- Locate the Android 5.0.2 CM12 Nightly ROM zipped file which you have already transferred to the root folder of the SD Card in Step No 3. Select it by Power button and confirm the ROM installation process to initiate.

Step No 10:- Install Google Apps (Gapps) package by repeating the same procedure as given above.

Step No 11:- After the installation finished, navigate to “+++++Go Back+++++” and from the Recovery Menu, select Reboot System Now.

Your LG G3 D855 will now be rebooted and it may take about 4 to 5 minutes while booting up after installing ROM and Google Apps.

Done! You’ve updated LG G3 D855 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with CyanogenMod 12 (CM12) Nightly custom firmware.
