Install Android 7.1 Nougat on Moto Maxx with crDroid custom ROM

Good news for Motorola Moto Maxx users as crDroid build custom ROM is now available for Moto Maxx. This ROM is based on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat. These devices may no longer receive official Android support due to hardware limitations, but fortunately, developers have developed the Android 7.1 Nougat based custom firmware for Moto Maxx. crDroid Android 7.1 Nougat is a very stable and light ROM that works smoothly on the Moto Maxx phones. Many users have tested it and found it free of lags, bugs or any other software related problems so that you can handle all your daily activities without any issues.



Moto Maxx was released in 2014, November and came with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, Quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 CPU, 3 GB RAM, 21 MP, autofocus, dual-LED flash camera and Android OS, v4.4.4 (KitKat), upgradable to v6.0.1 (Marshmallow) out of the box.

This custom ROM comes with the latest Android features, apps, and capabilities. Motorola does not officially announce it but just a custom ROM which is developed by third-party developers. Before using this step by step guide, you have to install a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP recovery on your phone to flash the ROM and Google Apps zipped files and don’t forget to take a full backup of your Moto Maxx phone. Now, if you are interested in installing the Android 7.1 Nougat crDroid custom ROM software on your Motorola Moto Maxx then go ahead.

This guide containing the Android 7.1 Nougat crDroid ROM and instructions can be used only for the Moto Maxx4 handsets. Do not try to install this firmware on any other devices or incorrect variant.

Before Getting Started:

  • Take a proper backup of all your valuable data and setting on your phone before proceeding to the installation guide.
  • Make sure that you have correctly installed the correct Moto Maxx USB drivers on your PC.
  • The latest version of a TWRP recovery should be already installed on the device.
  • The battery level of your Moto Maxx should be at least about 70% before going ahead with the instructions.

Steps to Update Moto Maxx to Android 7.1 Nougat crDroid ROM:

Step No 1: - First, download the Android 7.1 Nougat crDroid ROM, and Google Apps package (gapps-600-base-20151022-2-signed.zip) zipped files from the above-given links, on the desktop of your PC.

Step No 2: - Connect the Moto Maxx with PC using its USB data cable and transfer the downloaded files to the root folder of internal phone’s storage.

Step No 3: - Disconnect the device and turn it off to boot into recovery mode (TWRP).

Step No 4: - Turn on the phone while pressing and holding Volume Down + Power keys at the same time. Once the TWRP logo appears, you have successfully booted into the recovery.

Step No 5: - As your Moto Maxx is in TWRP recovery, perform a nandroid backup and select the System, Data, Boot, Recovery, EFS options.

Step No 6: - Navigate to the main menu of TWRP recovery and tap on the install option. Locate the ROM .zip file that you have already transferred to the internal storage of your phone earlier. Select it.

Step No 7: - Proceed with the installation by swiping the confirmation button to install the ROM.

Step No 8: - Install Google Apps package on your phone by repeating the above steps.

Step No 9: - Once the flashing process is completed successfully, reboot system.
