Install Android 5.0.1 Lollipop (LRX22C) on Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 via AOSP ROM

The highly-anticipated Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update has been rolled out for the Galaxy Nexus (GT-I9250). Thanks to the release of AOSP based custom ROM that is now available to download and install on Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250. As you know that Google is unlikely to support or release Android 5.0 update for most of the devices but Galaxy Nexus is one of those few lucky Android devices to taste Lollipop features with AOSP ROM that is very close to the factory images of the OS.

The new AOSP ROM comes with the stock Android 5.0.1 Lollipop features to Galaxy Nexus which is stable and can be used as a daily driver. Custom ROMs makes stock and official firmware more by including new features and a lot of system tweaks. So if you are interested and want to install the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update via AOSP ROM, then we’ve a step by step guide to update Galaxy Nexus I9250 to AOSP Android 5.0.1 Lollipop custom firmware.

Note:- This is just a custom ROM, not an official release by Google or Samsung. The ROM and Google Apps .zip files can be flashed on your phone using a custom recovery like ClockworkMod. This guide is limited to Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 only, don’t try it on any other variant of this device. You can check the model number of your device from Settings > About Phone.

Before Getting Started:

  • Backup all your important data before starting the updating process on your Galaxy Nexus I9250.
  • Enable USB Debugging option on the device by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
  • Ensure that the correct USB drivers for your Galaxy Nexus are installed on the PC. You can download USB Drivers from this link.
  • Your Galaxy Nexus I9250 should be factory unlocked and rooted via CWM or TWRP recovery.
  • Make sure your Galaxy Nexus is charged at least about 80% to prevent suddenly shutdowns during flashing an official firmware update, installing a custom ROM or installing mods etc.

Steps to Update Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Build LRX22C:

Follow the given instructions to begin the installation process on your Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop via AOSP ROM.

Step No 1:- Before starting the installation process, download Android 5.0.1 AOSP ROM (AOSP_maguro_121214.zip) for Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 on your PC.

Step No 2:- Plug your Galaxy Nexus to the PC via its USB data cable and mount the phone’s USB mass storage.

Step No 3:- Transfer the downloaded AOSP ROM .zip file that you’ve already downloaded, to the root folder of SD card on the device.

Step No 4:- Disconnect the phone from PC.

Step No 5:- Power off the phone in order to boot it into Bootloader/Fastboot Mode.

Step No 6:- Now Power it ON and then press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power keys simultaneously. Then tap Volume Down button till the Start option changes to Recovery mode (at the top), now press Power button to reboot into Recovery Mode.

Step No 7:- While the Galaxy Nexus enters into CWM Recovery, perform Full Data Wipe, Wipe Cache Partition, Wipe Dalvik Cache.

Step No 8:- Go back to the main Recovery Menu and select Install Zip from SDcard → Choose Zip from SDcard, then navigate to the AOSP ROM zip file that you transferred to the SD card of your phone, you can select it by tapping the Power button and start the installation on next screen.

Step No 9:- Now install Google Apps (Gapps) by repeating the above step.

Step No 10:- After installing ROM and Gapps, select “+++++Go Back+++++”.

Step No 11:- Finally, select Reboot System Now from the Recovery Menu

Step No 12:- The Galaxy Nexus will be rebooted and it may take about 4-5 minutes to boot for the first time after installation.
