Before Getting Started:

  • Create a proper backup of all important data of the phone using custom recovery like CWM or TWRP before proceeding to the installation guide.
  • Enable USB Debugging on the Xperia Z3 by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
  • The batter level of your Z3 should be above 80% to prevent unexpected shut downs while installation.
  • Your Xperia Z3 should be rooted and the latest version of a recovery must be installed on it.
  • The bootloader of the phone should be unlocked.

Required Files:

Steps to Install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on Xperia Z3 with CarbonROM:

Step No 1:- First, extract the downloaded CarbonROM and Google Apps Package on your PC and get the boot.img file separately.

Step No 2:- Now connect the Xperia Z3 with PC using its USB data cable and mount its USB memory.

Step No 3:- Transfer the CarbonROM which you’ve already downloaded from the above link, to the root folder of your SD card.

Step No 4:- Next, copy the boot.img file to android-sdk-windows/platform-tools directory on the PC.

Step No 5:- Turn OFF the Xperia Z3 in order to boot into bootloader mode.

Step No 6:- Press and hold Volume Up key while connecting it with USB cable. Once the the phone’s LED light turned blue, Z3 will be entered into bootloader mode.

Step No 7:- Navigate to android-sdk-windows/platform-tools directory and launch the command prompt.

Step No 8:- Type the following command and hit the Enter button:

fastboot flash boot boot.img

Step No 9:- Now give this command:

fastboot reboot

Step No 10:- Turn ON the phone while pressing Volume Up or Volume Down keys for a few times to enter into Recovery Mode.

Step No 11:- Perform wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and navigate to advanced option to select wipe dalvik cache.

Step No 12:- Go back to the main menu of recovery and choose install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard. Then locate the CarbonROM (root folder of SD Card). Select it and confirm installation to begin.

Step No 13:- Finally, install the Google Apps package on the Xperia Z3 by repeating the same procedure given above.

Step No 14:- Reboot the phone once the installation is completed.
