The latest Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA update is now available for the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition (GPe). HTC One M8’s owners can install this update manually, thanks to the XDA senior member Dadud for uploading this OTA update which was recently captured by a Redditor. The size of this new update is about 244MB that comes with a lot of new 5.1 Lollipop features like:
- Notification interruptions are handled along with numerous bug fixes and animations
- HD voice support
- Ability to control paired Bluetooth devices from quick settings
According to Dadud; this captured OTA update is working finely with ADB method but you may also try to install it using a stock recovery given in this guide. Before Getting Started:
- Create a proper back up of all your important data and settings on the phone before proceeding to the installation guide.
- Verify that the phone is in S-OFF mode.
- Download and install the HTC One M8 USB Drivers on the PC from here [Windows 8 Drivers]
- Enable USB Debugging on the M8 by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
- Verify the battery level of your phone, it should be charged at least about 80%.

Steps to Install Stock Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA update on HTC One M8 GPe Manually
Step No 1:- First, download the Android 5.1 OTA update on the desktop of your PC for HTC One M8 GPe.
Step No 2:- Connect the HTC One M8 with PC using its USB data cable and transfer the Android 5.1 OTA .zip file to the internal storage of phone.
Step No 3:- Turn OFF the M8 in order to boot into recovery mode.
Step No 4:- Press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons at the same time till Fastboot menu appears.
Step No 5:- Navigate and highlight Recovery option using Volume buttons and confirm selection with Power button.
Step No 6:- The HTC One M8 should now reboot and a red Android logo with an exclamation mark on the screen will be displayed.
Step No 7:- Press the Volume Up button followed by the Power button to enter into the stock recovery.
Step No 8:- Choose “Apply from phone storage” option and navigate to the OTA .zip file that you’ve already transferred to the internal storage of your phone. Confirm selection by hitting the Power button. This process may take some time, wait for the installation process to be finished.
Step No 9:- Select Reboot System Now option to boot into the newly installed Android 5.1 firmware.
