Update Galaxy S3 to CyanogenMod based Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Custom ROM

Samsung Galaxy devices have received the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update as well as Nexus devices, even though not officially. You may know that the Galaxy S5 is already enjoying official Lollipop update. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop is the latest version of the most popular Android OS. CM12 is almost out for most of the Samsung Galaxy Smartphones as installing custom ROM improve the device’s performance and UI experiences. Today we have good news for the users having Samsung’s 2013 flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 model that the latest CyanogenMod12 Android 5.0.2 Lollipop custom ROM has been released for the Galaxy S3.

The version of this custom ROM (CyanogenMod CM12) is Beta-1 which is developed by the senior XDA members (JustArchi, Moster2 & arter97). Its size is 223.9MB and based on the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) 5.0.2 Lollipop. This is an unstable version Beta-1 CM12 build, so there might be some bugs expected and are yet to be fixed. This CM12 custom ROM series Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware is only working on Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 (Exynos). Don’t try this firmware on any other device, as a result; it might get bricked. You can verify the model number of your Galaxy S3 by navigating to Settings > About phone > Model number.

Before Getting Started:

  • Take a complete backup of all the data via TWRP installed on your Galaxy S3.
  • Your Galaxy S3 should be rooted and has a ClockworkMod Recovery installed. Otherwise, a custom ROM will not be installed on it.
  • Download and install USB drivers for Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 on your PC.
  • The battery level of your Galaxy S3 should be more than 85% before proceeding to the installation guide.

Steps to Install CyanogenMod Android 5.0.2 Lollipop CM12 Beta-1 Custom ROM on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300:

Step No 1: – First plug your Galaxy S3 I9300 to the PC using its USB data cable.Step No 2: – Now transfer the Android 5.0 Lollipop .zip file to the root folder of SD Card into your device.

Step No 3: – Disconnect the Galaxy S3 from the PC.Step No 4: – Power Off your device to put into Recovery Mode.

Step No 5: – Turn On the device by pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.

Step No 6: – While your device is in the Recovery Mode, wipe all the data on the phone, by choosing “wipe data/factory reset” option.

Step No 7: – Wipe the cache memory by selecting “wipe cache partition.”

Step No 8: – Navigate to ClockworkMod recovery, and choose Advanced, then tap “Wipe Dalvik cache.”

Step No 9: – Now once again go back to main recovery menu and then tap “Install zip from SD card.”

Step No 10: – Tap on “Choose zip from sd card” and find the Android 5.0.2 ROM .zip file that you’ve copied to the root folder of SD card and begin the installation process.

Step No 11:- Navigate to “+++++Go Back+++++” once the installation process completed.

Step No 12: – Finally, reboot the device by selecting “reboot system now” from the recovery menu.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 will take an about 4-5 to boots up for the first time after installation.
