Before Getting Started:

  • This tutorial will wipe out all your data, so take a proper backup of all your existing phone data and settings.
  • The Xperia T and Xperia L should be rooted with a latest custom recovery like ClockworkMod recovery already installed.
  • Download and install USB Drivers for Xperia T LT30p / Xperia L on the PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging is enabled on your device.
  • Verify that the battery level of your Xperia T/L is at least about 80% before proceeding to the installation guide.

Steps to Install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on Sony Xperia T / Xperia L via CM12.1 Custom ROM:

Step No 1:- First, download the right CM12.1 Nightly ROM for your Xperia T or Xperia L from the given links on the desktop of your PC.

Step No 2:- Connect the Xperia T / L with the PC using its USB data cable and mount the USB Memory Storage of the phone.

Step No 3:- Transfer the CM12.1 Android 5.1.1 ROM and Google Apps zipped files to the root folder of your SD Card.

Step No 4:-  Now disconnect your Xperia T or L and then turn OFF the device in order to boot into Recovery Mode.

Step No 5:- Turn ON the phone while pressing the Volume Up or Volume Down keys a few times till the LED light turn pink.

Step No 6:- While your Xperia T/L is now in the ClockworkMod Recovery, perform a full data wipe by selecting “wipe data/factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and Wipe dalvik cache too. From CWM recovery, go to ‘advanced’ and then select “wipe dalvik cache”.

Note: Wipe Dalvik Cache will help you to prevent boot loops or any other errors while installing the ROM.

Step No 7:- Go back to the main menu of recovery and select “install zip from SD card” > “choose zip from sdcard”.

Step No 8:- Find the CM12.1 Android 5.1.1 ROM .zip file which you have transferred to the root folder of your SD Card already. Select it using the Power button and confirm the ROM installation process to begin.

Step No 9:- Install Google Apps (Gapps) by repeating the above steps.

Step No 10:- Once the ROM and Google Apps installation completes, navigate to “+++++Go Back+++++” and reboot the phone by choosing reboot system now from the recovery menu.

Now the Xperia T LT30p or Xperia L will be rebooted and may take about 4 to 5 minutes to boots up for the first time after installing ROM and Google Apps.
